Percentage Calculator Frequently asked questions
- Use 'X% of Y': X = 20, Y = your bill. The tool shows the tip amount - add it to the bill for the total. Same mode works for discounts: a 20% discount means you pay 80%.
- Going from 20% to 25% is a 5 percentage-point increase but a 25% relative increase. The Change mode computes the relative change: (new − old) / old × 100.
- Use the second mode: e.g. 45 is what % of 60? Divide 45 by 60 and multiply by 100 = 75%. Handy for test scores and completion rates.
- Yes - the Change mode accepts a new value lower than the old one and reports a negative percentage, e.g. −30%.
