Text to Speech

Paste any text, pick a voice, and listen. Proofread drafts, read articles hands-free, or check pronunciation.

Your browser does not support the Web Speech API, so text to speech is unavailable here. It works in recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on desktop and mobile.
Private by design: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent to a server.

Text to Speech Frequently asked questions

The tool uses the speech voices installed on your device and browser. Chrome on desktop usually offers several English voices plus others; phones often include system voices for multiple languages. If the list looks empty, wait a moment - some browsers load voices a few seconds after the page opens.
Quality depends on the voice your system provides. Newer operating systems ship much better neural-sounding voices. Try a different voice from the list, and slow the rate slightly - slower speech often sounds more natural.
Not with this tool. It plays speech through your device's speakers in real time. It is made for listening and proofreading, not for generating audio files.
Browsers can cut off very long passages, so the tool reads up to about 5,000 characters at a time. For longer documents, read them in sections.
No. Speech is generated by your device's built-in speech engine. Your text never leaves your browser.
