  4. 4.Review changes Scroll through the highlighted diff to find every difference between the two documents.

JSON Diff / Compare & JSON Developer Standards

JSON is the standard format for web APIs and modern applications. Using the JSON Diff / Compare helps you check syntax, catch formatting errors, and keep your data clean and readable.

Zero-Server Security

All data entered into JSON Diff / Compare runs directly inside your browser sandbox. Nothing is ever sent across the network or saved on remote servers.

Clean & CI/CD Ready

Well-formatted JSON prevents runtime syntax bugs, makes code reviews easier, and ensures smooth API data exchange.

JSON Diff / Compare Frequently Asked Questions

Does JSON Diff care about key order?

No. JSON objects are unordered by definition. The diff compares values by key name, not position. Reordered keys with identical values show no difference.

Does it diff nested objects and arrays?

Yes. The diff is recursive and descends into nested objects and arrays. Changes deep in the structure are highlighted exactly where they occur.

What does the diff show for array changes?

Array items are compared positionally - item 0 is compared with item 0, item 1 with item 1, etc. If an item is inserted or removed, all subsequent items will show as changed. For semantic array diffs, key-based comparison on an object property may be more useful.

Can I diff API responses?

Yes. Copy a JSON response from your browser DevTools Network tab and paste it into each panel. This is a common use case for verifying that a code change did not unexpectedly alter an API response.

Is there a size limit?

The diff runs entirely in your browser. Large JSON files work but may take a few seconds for the diffing algorithm to complete. For very large files (over a few MB), consider diffing a representative sample first.

Can this tool handle large, complex JSON payloads?

Yes. Because the tool operates directly inside modern V8 JavaScript execution engines, it easily processes complex multi-megabyte payloads containing thousands of nested keys with negligible latency.

Are my proprietary payloads or secrets stored or cached?

No. BeYourTools implements zero tracking, zero telemetries, and zero database persistence. Everything stays strictly inside your browser memory and disappears the moment your tab is closed.
