PNG Converter Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my PNG file so much larger than the equivalent JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression, which preserves every pixel exactly. JPG achieves smaller sizes through lossy compression that discards some image detail. For photographs, JPG is almost always the better choice for file size.
Can I convert PNG to SVG?
Yes, but the result is a raster image embedded in an SVG wrapper, not a true vector image. True vectorisation (tracing paths from raster pixels) requires specialised software.
Does converting PNG to JPG lose the transparency?
Yes. JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with a background colour (usually white) when converting to JPG.
What is the best format to convert PNG to for email attachments?
JPG for photographs (much smaller), and PNG or WebP for graphics. Keep PNG for anything with text, logos, or sharp edges where quality matters.
Can I convert several PNG files at once?
Yes. You can choose several PNG files at the same time. The tool converts up to three files at once and lets you download them one by one or together in a ZIP file.
Are my photos or PNG files saved anywhere?
No. All image work takes place directly in your web browser. Your files never leave your computer or phone. All data clears out of memory as soon as you close the page.
